Working with Design Formats

When you create a design, you must specify a design format. A design's format determines the kind of information that it will accommodate as well as the design tasks that are available to you when working with the design. For information on format types, see Design Formats.

Note: This topic and subtopics only apply to Bentley OpenUtilities Designer and Bentley OpenUtilities Workflow Manager.

Selecting a Format for a New Design

The format for a new design is determined by the Format setting on the New Design dialog box. The GIS format is the default setting. Each design is displayed in the My Designs view with an icon that indicates its format (see Viewing Designs by Format Type).

After you have created a design, you can convert it to a different format by changing the Format setting on the Design Properties dialog box (see Changing the Format of a Design). You can also save the design in a different format by opening it in the Design Assistant and performing a Save As operation (see Saving a Design in a Different Format).
